Meet the girls - our free-ranging hens who roam, forage, and enjoy the good life every day. We’re dedicated to their high welfare, ensuring they have plenty of space, fresh air, and a natural lifestyle. Joyful and healthy hens produce better eggs, and our girls couldn’t agree more!
Free-Range Freedom
Our girls aren’t just hens; they’re explorers, scratchers, and all-around feathered friends. By day, they roam the countryside, scratching for insects, dust-bathing, and getting into all sorts of delightful hen antics. At night, they settle down in spacious, safe housing with plenty of roosting room, giving them a peaceful night’s rest (and avoiding any bedtime squabbles!).
In our world, the chicken definitely comes first. By giving our hens the best possible care, they reward us with the high-quality eggs you love.
Nutrition for Nurturing
We’ve spent over 40 years fine-tuning what goes into our girls’ daily diet. Working with our expert feed suppliers, we’ve crafted unique feed blends that make all the difference. Each blend is packed with nutrients to keep our hens healthy and strong, resulting in delicious, nutrient-rich eggs with vibrant yolks and fantastic flavour.
Daily Routine: From Nest to Carton
Every morning, just after the hatches open, we gather the day’s eggs by hand, carefully sorting them to ensure top quality from the start. From there, they head to our purpose-built Packing Centre at Egg HQ for a second round of grading with state-of-the-art technology. Every egg is given the Red Lion stamp of approval, a date code, and a final quality check before being packed into 100% recycled, 100% recyclable and 100% compostable cartons that are made using 'Green Planet Energy' - 100% wind and water - keeping sustainability at the heart of what we do.
Healthy Hens
The welfare of our girls is paramount. Each hen receives a full vaccination programme during the rearing phase, with additional vaccinations provided throughout the laying cycle if needed. Every flock benefits from a comprehensive health check as part of their Veterinary Health Plan, ensuring any issues are swiftly identified and addressed. As part of the RSPCA Assured scheme, our hens thrive in an environment designed to meet the highest standards of care and welfare. From glossy feathers to bright eyes, they’re a picture of health—producing eggs that are second to none.
